November Glam Bag

I joined ipsy back when it was still myglam. Don’t ask me how long ago that was. Maybe 2011? I stupidly didn’t take out a subscription to their product sample service at the time. Then I forgot all my log-in credentials and had to start a new account in 2012.

And yep, still too stupid to take a subscription to their beauty samples.

Until this autumn when I finally got annoyed enough with another subscriber service to see what ipsy was all about. This time, there was a waiting list to join in on the fun. That’s what I get for not making ipsy my first choice!

I can’t tell you what was in my October bag because I put it down somewhere and I don’t remember where. *embarrassed* I only know it was a white vinyl makeup bag with words on them (every month, your cosmetic treasures come in its own cute little makeup bag) and … stuff inside.

It’s a good thing I pay attention to detail.

I do remember that each ipsy bag contains at least one full-sized product. Now don’t get me wrong, I love a cute little sample-sized product, but sometimes a girl really needs the full-sized version!

So imagine how surprised I was to get the delightfully-garish gold November bag filled with a full-sized mascara by Em (part of Michelle Phan’s new makeup line); full-sized Star Looks Gem Pencil eye liner in Amethyst; full-sized bottle of Nailtini nail polish in Champagne; full-sized be a bombshell lip crayon in shameless; a very generously-sized pot of BH Cosmetics Galaxy Chic baked eyeshadow in Sun; and what I think may be a full-sized pot of Pixi beauty Bronzer in Subtly Suntouched. I was not expecting so many full-sized products in one bag. #winning

From the top: Star Looks Gem eyeliner in Amethyst, be a bombshell lip crayon in shameless, and it’s hard to see the swatch of BH Cosmetics Galaxy Chic baked eyeshadow in Sun because it’s nearly the same color as my skin. Except I’m not a vampire and I don’t glitter.

I’m surprised by how much I like the eyeliner. Super-glitzy makeup is generally not my style. It brings attention to my shoddy technique! But seriously, I’m really pleased by how easily the pencil glided along my lash line.

Ditto for the lip pencil. I love the color and that it’s not drying. I wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s moisturizing either, but I’ve been wearing it for about two hours and so far, no flaking or tightness that usually comes with a lot of lip colors I’ve used. Really nice!

And then we come to the Em mascara. I’ve been a Michelle Phan fan from her xanga blogging days and expected a superior mascara: one that volumizes, lengthens, stays put, and doesn’t clump.

I’m super disappointed. Em mascara lengthens like crazy but fails miserably at volumizing my skimpy lashes, and it clumps. It’s been on my lashes for a couple of hours and so far, that’s where it’s been staying.

I’m headed for a week in Rehoboth Beach, DE with my very dear friend R and her family. It’s the perfect time to use up a bunch of product samples that I keep meaning to try but never get around to doing.

I grabbed a handful of samples from my stash and brought them with me. I’m actually a little embarrassed by how much I actually have; some of them come from Birchbox, others are from Sephora, and the rest are from who-knows-where.

Here it is:

I’m going to spend the next week trying out at least two samples out of that box every day. I got a head start tonight with one product, Lancôme’s Génefique Youth Activating Concentrate, which is a serum that goes on after you cleanse your skin but before you put on your moisturizer and sunscreen.

This stuff actually feels pretty nice on. It applies very smoothly and easily, absorbs beautifully, and there’s no obnoxious perfume! The consistency is very much like aloe gel, thin and loose.

I haven’t put any moisturizer on over the Lancôme Génefique Youth Activating Concentrate, and I’m pleased with how soft my skin feels without feeling greasy or sticky. I likey!

Tomorrow, we arrive in Rehoboth Beach!
